Residential care

The costs of residential aged care are made up of a number of parts.  Depending on your situation you may be asked to pay one or more of the following costs.

Basic Daily Care Fee

This covers living costs such as meals, power and laundry.  For some people this will be the only fee they pay.

Means Tested Care Fee

This is a means-tested fee that is payable by some residents.  It’s an additional contribution to the cost of the care you receive in a residential aged care home.  You can download the combined assets and income assessment form from the https://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/forms/sa457

Daily Accommodation Contribution (DAC)

Partially Supported residents are required to pay the Daily Accommodation Contribution (DAC) as an additional contribution towards the cost of daily care.  The DAC is set by the Department of Human Services, based on an income and assets assessment.

Residential Accommodation Deposit (RAD)

Partially and Non-Supported Residents are required to pay a fully refunded Residential Accommodation Deposit (RAD) for daily accommodation.  The RAD is set by the Department of Human Services, based on an income and assets assessment.

Residents can pay their accommodation price in full as a lump sum RAD payment, monthly payments as a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) or a combination of both.  Currently, Murray Haven Homes has set the RAD at a maximum of $450,000.  Options for payment of RAD are set out below.

Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)

The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) is a payment for accommodation, paid monthly in advance, similar to paying rent.  The DAP is based on a legislated formula that converts the RAD to a DAP and is not refunded when the resident leaves the facility or decides to pay a RAD.

Accommodation payment options for Non-Supported Residents

Residents may elect to provide a combination of RAD and DAP to suit their financial circumstances.

Option 1: Full Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)

Pay the total amount ($450,000) of the Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) within 6 months of entry to the facility.  DAP is charged from the date of entry until RAD is paid.

Option 2: Full Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)

Pay the total amount of the Refundable Accommodation Deposit RAD as a DAP from date of entry to the facility.

Option 3: Combination of RAD and DAP

Pay a lump-sum amount as a RAD and a monthly amount as a DAP based on the agreed accommodation payment.
